About FreeCell

The classic open solitaire — every card visible from the start. Use four free cells as parking spots and build foundations Ace to King. This free memory games activity is built for older adults who want clear, readable browser-based games without sign-up friction.

Memory games support focus, short-term recall, and pattern recognition with visual and logic-based challenges. You can play at your own pace, replay the challenge, and use it as part of a regular routine for light mental exercise.

How to play FreeCell

About 10 minutes per game. Step-by-step rules, in plain English.

  1. Set up the tableau

All 52 cards are dealt face-up into eight columns. The first four columns get 7 cards each; the last four get 6 cards each.

  2. Use the four free cells as parking spots

Each of the four free cells (top-left of the board) can hold one card temporarily while you reorganize the tableau.

  3. Build the tableau down by alternating colors

Move cards between columns by stacking lower-rank cards onto higher-rank cards of the opposite color. A red 7 goes on a black 8.

  4. Move sequences using the supermove rule

You can move a properly-ordered run of cards in one click. The maximum length you can move is (1 + empty free cells) × 2 raised to the number of empty columns.

  5. Send Aces and 2s to the foundations early

Each suit has its own foundation. Move Aces home as soon as you can, then 2s, 3s, and so on.

  6. Win by completing all four foundations

The game is won when every foundation has Ace through King.

Frequently asked questions

Is FreeCell free to play online?

Yes. SeniorBrainGames offers FreeCell completely free, no signup, no ads on top of the game. Tap-to-move (no awkward dragging) and works offline once loaded.

Is FreeCell harder than Klondike?

FreeCell is more demanding mentally because every card is visible from the start, so you have to plan ahead. But FreeCell is also more rewarding — over 99% of FreeCell deals are winnable with correct play, versus around 80% for Klondike.

What is the supermove rule in FreeCell?

Strictly, you can only move one card at a time, but free cells and empty columns let you move groups in one motion. The maximum sequence length is (1 + empty free cells) × 2 raised to the number of empty columns.

Can I play FreeCell offline?

Yes. After your first visit, FreeCell is cached on your device and works without an internet connection.
