About Spider Solitaire

The classic ten-column patience — build descending runs, clear full suits from King to Ace, and use the deal pile when you're stuck. One-suit version, perfect for beginners. This free memory games activity is built for older adults who want clear, readable browser-based games without sign-up friction.

How to play Spider Solitaire (one-suit)

About 20 minutes per game. Step-by-step rules, in plain English.

  1. Set up the tableau

Two decks (104 cards) are dealt across 10 columns. The first 4 columns get 6 cards; the last 6 columns get 5 cards each. Only the bottom card of each column starts face-up.

  2. Build descending runs

Move cards onto columns by placing them on the next-higher rank. In the one-suit version on this site, suits don't matter — any 7 can go on any 8.

  3. Move face-down cards face-up

Whenever you clear a face-down card from the bottom of a column by moving the cards above it, the next card flips face-up.

  4. Clear a full King-to-Ace run

When a column has a complete sequence from King down to Ace in the same suit, the run is automatically removed and one of the eight 'completed suits' is banked.

  5. Deal more cards from the stock

When you're stuck, press the Deal button to deal 10 more cards (one to each column). Important: you cannot deal if any column is empty — fill them all first.

  6. Win by clearing all eight suits

The game ends when all 104 cards have been cleared as eight complete K-A runs.

Frequently asked questions

Is Spider Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. SeniorBrainGames offers Spider Solitaire (one-suit beginner version) completely free with no signup. It works offline once loaded.

What's the difference between one-suit and four-suit Spider?

In one-suit Spider all 104 cards are spades, so any card of one rank can be stacked on any card of the next-higher rank. In four-suit Spider you can only build complete suit-matched runs. The one-suit version is much friendlier to beginners and is what we offer here.

Why can't I deal more cards?

Spider's deal rule says you cannot deal new cards if any column is empty. Fill any empty columns first by moving a card or sequence onto them, then the Deal button becomes available again.

How long does a Spider Solitaire game take?

A typical one-suit Spider game takes 15 to 25 minutes — longer than Klondike, but a great way to spend a focused half-hour.
